“The greatest thing in the world is to know how to belong to oneself.” – Michel de Montaigne
As much as I love to be around people and their inspiring energies, I also deeply yearn for solitude….And perhaps it’s in part my Finnish heritage, though I think it’s more than that….it’s that time I get to refuel, to simply be and go deeper within, to reflect and create and imagine from a place of complete stillness.
These photos were taken on a quiet still morning in Bali at the magical Kubu beach at Ayana Resort. There wasn’t a soul in sight as I walked along the beach allowing my connection to the earth to centre and rejuvenate my being. I feel so thankful to know myself, to understand with love and compassion the needs I have, and to take action to care for them. Every single act of self love builds my energy stores and sets my vibration soaring to a place where only complete wellness can exist. For those suffering from illness of any sort, I urge you to step out in nature, somewhere peaceful, somewhere still, where it’s just you and the elements. Allow this space and experience to refuel your being and bring healing to every cell in your body.
Bare feet on the sand, wind in my hair, salt on my lips, dancing upon the edge of the ocean as the sun beams it’s glorious rays upon my skin. This is the magical setting that ignites my dreams and makes anything possible in my reality.
If you are feeling a little low and in need of a pick me up, find yourself some natural inspiration in your surrounds. Clarity and peace will come, and allow yourself the space and time to immerse yourself in it. Revel in the beauty that is all around you, and that is you. From this centred, nurturing space your passions and spirit will fire up. Now is the time to dream big and run wild along the earth as you plant the seeds of manifestation.
We are all powerful beyond measure. We all have the ability to create abundant and love filled lives for ourselves. Take some time to slow down, centre yourself, dream and acknowledge you are the creator of your life.
When it comes to fashion there is not much more that I love than exquisite jewellery….and especially when there is an amazing heart and soul behind the creations. I’m honoured today to share with you all a little about this amazing label I recently discovered – Ernest & Joe. Absolutely divine jewellery, simple, clean lines, incredible quality with great attention to detail, making them next level for me.
Behind the scenes of this label is beautiful mother and daughter duo, Sally and Mia, creating this magic together. The whole family is involved in this creative passion of theirs, and we are the lucky ones who get to have a piece of this art made with love. Here’s a little interview I did so you can find out more about this lovely duo.
How did Ernest and Joe begin?
E&J began after I came home from a big trip around South East Asia, Mum suggested that we do a short course in silver smithing together and from there we combined forces and created our little business. Ernest was my Pops (Mums Dad) middle name that he didn’t like, but I loved, and Joe was Nans Dads name, so masculine for such feminine jewellery!
What are your greatest passions in life?
We are very down to earth people and as long as we have our tight knit family around us we are happy. We are extremely devoted to E&J, we don’t get much time to do anything else…lucky we love it!
Who is/are your major style influences/inspirations?
We try to keep all of our ideas as original as possible, we don’t really go hunting for any inspiration, we just wait until an idea pops into our head and we work from there. We like the simplicity of our designs.. we probably like them a little too much, i am always pinching stock to keep for myself!
What do you love most about Ernest and Joe?
We love that Ernest and Joe is entirely hand made in my back shed. We love that our two employees are my Brother and Sister. We love that my little baby Violet scoots around in the shed under my dogs watchful eye. We love that we have created something that means so much to so many people. Most of all I love that I get to hang out with Mum every day making jokes and beautiful jewellery.
What are your future dreams?
We would like to keep building our little business up and be able to employ my Brother and Sister full time.
We are excited for E&J to become a recognisable name here in Australia and around the world.
We are pretty happy to keep taking the opportunities that come our way. We just want to make jewellery forever!!
I don’t know about you guys but I’m in love. These guys just peel it back to what matters most and their beautiful designs are a great representation of all that they are about.
Here’s to family, love, following your heart and doing what you love, each and every single day. Thanks for the inspiration Sally and Mia :)
“She usually loved the sun to reign, but today she enjoyed the surprise of rain”
I’m a summer loving girl. I love the heat and the beaming warmth of sun on my skin. And even though winter is a not my favourite, I still love the rain. Especially on those days when it’s not cold, and the light sprinkles of rain refresh you like a waterfall mist.
I spent an afternoon recently at the beautiful home of Losari Home and Woman and as we always do, had an absolute blast! I wore this stunning Chicwish crochet dress along with so many exquisite silver accessories from Dixi, Shayote and Minc Collections. I revelled in the rain mists and watched the rain shine and glimmer as it sparkled and illuminated everything it touched. I felt ever grateful for the chance to dance in the rain and all the precious gifts it brings to our earth.
Embrace the beauty in the everyday, it will bring magic to every moment of your life.
“Dare to love yourself as if you were a rainbow with gold at both ends” – Aberjhani
I’ve been asked quite a lot recently about finding peace and love, so I want to share just a little in this post that I feel may be of help to some of you.
Each day I wake up I consciously choose to focus my thoughts upon LOVE. I focus my attention on all that I love, all that is working in my life, all that brings me joy. The more attention I give to it, the more I create and amplify my experience of this in my life. When I catch myself headed down a path of stressful worrying thoughts, I stop. I look at the layers that hold them in place. I provide these painful thoughts with the loving space they deserve. I question their validity, I imagine how I’d feel without them. I discover a blissful state of peace and lightness without them. I wonder if they are in fact really true and I look deeper at their roots. I dig these up and plant new loving, peaceful seeds in their place. Ones that will blossom and bring forth the great fruits of life. I feel a lightness wash over me as I empty out those stressful thoughts that really don’t need to be on repeat anymore. When we run the same painful programs over and over in our minds, we only cause more suffering to ourselves. We can choose what we wish to believe, and what we wish to think and feel. It takes some practice firstly to become aware of these thoughts, to question them, and to realise that you yourself are the one who can set free your mind and allow peace and love to flow in.
Each day practice the art of forwarding your focus to all that is magical, magnificent, amazing and wonderful. Focus on what you have with love and with gratitude. I guarantee you, the more you do this, the better you will feel, and the more awesomeness you will naturally attract into your life through the universal law of attraction.
“You are my sun, my moon and all my stars” E. E. Cummings
We were recently blessed with a random summer’s day in the middle of winter. I immediately took the chance to hop into this exquisite Tysa dress, adorn myself with some golden jewels from Goldbarr + Mojomade, and play with these super fun flash tattoos from Child of Wild.
I jumped in my car and found myself on this staircase right on the beach, imagining I was amongst some ancient ruins full of history and untold stories. The setting sun was simply magic and for a moment I had completely forgotten where I was.
Let your imagination run wild and play with all the childlike joy that bursts within you to be expressed. We are all meant to shine, as children do. Let your soul shine that brilliant golden illuminating light and enjoy every aspect of this amazing journey we call life.
Ahhh nothing quite like a good tribal treasure haul….finding those one of a kind pieces that so perfectly reflect your style. I had the pleasure recently of visiting the gorgeous Scarlet boutique in North Beach here in WA. The divine Tara, owner and curator of worldly clothing, jewels and homewares, has created an inspirational space, that feels so homely. Beautiful tribal designs, colour pops and luscious aromas all ignite the senses.
After my lovely visit, I headed to the beach decked out in some of my favourite pieces from her magical store. Paired with some incredible vintage pieces from Gypsy River and Free People and my outfit was complete. Rich with colour, texture and plenty of captivating intricate details.
I am slightly obsessed with tribal jewellery ;) There is something so unique and interesting that draws me. The history, the culture, the story behind it. The energy. I make sure when purchasing tribal jewels that they are made under fair-trade conditions. Something to be aware of. It’s better to spend a little more on the real deal than buy a whole lot of cheap jewels that ultimately have their own much higher cost. Always check your jewels come from fair-trade sources, and know in spending that little bit more you are supporting local sustainability and the welfare of those divine beings who create these beautiful jewels.
This post is in deep appreciation and honour of all the artisans all around the world. The ones who don’t always get the recognition they deserve, and so humbly never ask for it. I thank you.
With love and gratitude,
Free People top, Zoda bag + cuff, Shantique turquoise cuff – Scarlet Fashion | Follow on Instagram | I love supporting local business and perth ladies this one is golden. Make sure you visit her shop at Shop 18, North Beach Shopping Centre, North Beach.
Nothing quite like that first storm of autumn to make your heart beat a little faster. My husband and I decided to take a little drive up to the Perth hills to watch it roll in. We were sprinkled by the most delicate rain drops as we perched ourselves on a boulder and watched the storm clouds swallow up the city. As the sun began to set, the golden light beamed upon us and we inhaled that glorious fresh scent that always comes with a storm. There’s just something about driving up to the top of the hills and looking out to the city and ocean that makes everything so simple and clear. It’s only 20 minutes away really, but it’s like a mini holiday. I’m so thankful for the perspective it gives me. It’s an opportunity to really breath out and exhale all the layers that have been building within. To let go of the stuff that really doesn’t matter.
All rugged up on this stormy evening, I layered my Free People dress with my Freebird Collection cardi. The perfect cardi to throw on over everything! So soft and cosy. I chose some vintage turquoise, Spell + Minc Collections rings, my latest fave Goldbarr necklace, and a Little pieces of Hope ring. I absolutely love all that this artist represents. She is consistently giving back to the world. Love supporting people who are conscious in helping out others in need.
I hope you all get some time to explore, release and shed those layers that so often build up with everyday stressors. Find the magic in the simple beauty of nature. Allow it to infuse it’s healing into every cell of your being and evoke the bliss of simplicity.
Well it’s safe to say I am completely jewellery obsessed! haha! My collection seems to be growing at a pretty insane rate. Ever thankful for the abundance, there is one particular designer’s work I have been coveting the most lately.
I recently came across Goldbarr on Instagram, as I was randomly searching with the hopes of discovering something really different that would answer the call of my heart and creative yearnings. And I found it. All those statement necklaces are absolute perfection. The unique details, excellent quality and craftsmanship, along with middle eastern/asian/indian and californian influences, makes Goldbarr a must have for any serious jewellery lover. They are really fun to stack too, if you want to take your statement necklace to that next level neck party. It can get heavy around the neck lol, but it’s jaw dropping, show stopping amazingness. I love discovering new labels that excite my senses and feed my creative soul.
These photos were taken one beautiful late afternoon, frolicking on the beach like an ocean gypsy, I styled my Goldbarr with my easy to wear and layer free people shred dress, some gypsy jingly belt bling, and a whole pile of vintage silver rings. Throw on some contrasting black boots, bag, hat and jacket and head off to your favourite festival. I was perfectly content though to throw my boots off, feel the sand on my feet, drink in the salty ocean air and make the most of that perfect temperate easterly breeze.
For anyone wanting to add a little Goldbarr into their life, they have offered all my followers a special discount code ‘OCEANGYPSY’ to use at checkout which will give you 15% off your order. If you spend over $350, you will also receive a free Maldives necklace.YAY! Love sharing the love with you all. If any of you end up adding some Goldbarr to your collection I’d so love to see your pics on Instagram. Tag me #gypsylovinlight so I can see :) Thank you! Love you all soooo much!! xx
These images were taken a couple of weeks ago now, during a late afternoon stroll along the beach with my beloved husband before our dinner date that evening. The silvery light was fading ever so quickly, the way it does as we move deeper into fall. The reflections of light, the crisp air, the roaring sea….it all stirred at the beginnings of winter.
The evening called for my favourite Sea Dreamer romper. The perfect trans-seasonal piece and so great for layering. I had the chance to wear some divine bright silver jewels from Anna Beck and Dogeared Jewelry. I must say I really love that contrast of black and bright silver. It added a touch of glamour to my bohemian look, and was perfect for me to take out from the beach to a special dinner date with my husband. A little St. Eve Jewelry gypsy belt to jingle my way through the night, and I was set. We had such a beautiful evening together. Always such precious times that revive us as parents, partners, lovers and friends.
This post is dedicated to my husband, Bobby, the man who so willingly gives so much of his time and energy to help create this blog of mine. He is my amazing and talented photographer, the beautiful man who captures my essence and brings it to life, so I may share this with you all. He does all of this so humbly, never asking for credit or anything in return. He knows how happy it makes me and how much I love styling. What a wonderful man he is. I am so blessed.
