A few weeks ago…or maybe even a month now (WOW!) I had the pleasure of visiting the Hobo + Hatch pop up shop down south in the beautiful town Cowaramup, in the Margaret River wine region. The vibe and beauty of this town and shop was so relaxing…I didn’t want to leave! If you get the chance to stop by on your travels it’s a must! So many of my favourite labels like Rue Stiic + Arrow Divine all in the one place. And what a space it is! So perfectly decked out with peacock chairs, divine tapestries, worldly jewels and cow skulls. See pics below!! I was lucky enough to pick up one of their yakadiyak wool/cotton shawls and it’s been keeping me warm and cosy during this sudden seasonal shift right into winter! And not only are they divine, each purchase supports communities in Nepal. “By purchasing from our Yakadiyak range you’ve helped make a small difference in the lives of others. We will continue to donate our time & money to the Nepalese community that touched our hearts & forever changed our soul” – Leona, Hobo + Hatch. Nothing better than wearing conscious clothing. Feels soooo good in so many ways :))))

These photos featuring this beautiful scarf, were taken a couple of weeks ago when summer was still hanging around for one last party :) The golden light in the afternoon seems to intensify during this time of year. The sunsets are so brilliant and deep, just like the autumn leaves. It’s yet another magical time of year with so much beauty to be thankful for.

Boho Crochet Heaven

March 8, 2014

IMG_7112IMG_7213IMG_7127IMG_7124IMG_7203IMG_7139IMG_7164IMG_4987IMG_7211IMG_7120 IMG_7567IMG_7580IMG_7614IMG_7559IMG_7615IMG_7561

Crochet is something that has always been close to my heart. I grew up watching my extraordinary mother crochet intricate designs for hours on end, as though it was her own form of meditation. As a child I was always in awe of her skill and patience….and nothing has changed there. I was lucky enough to learn this art from her, so I know how challenging it can be. So when I wear handmade crochet designs, I feel that extra bit special, knowing how much time, love and energy went into creating it. Every boho goddess needs a little crochet in her life.

Here I have the honour of sharing a truly gorgeous piece from Sumika. The festival fringe top is the perfect fit and you get a little midriff show without it being too cropped. Wear it as a bikini top, with denim cut offs or your fave maxi skirt and don’t forget the flowers in your hair :) Check out Flower Gypsies for some beautiful designs…they make such a great range of flower crowns.

To this outfit I added my Lyloh sarong. Made from super soft Organic cotton jersey, dyed with indian almond leaves, creating a beautiful eco friendly sarong.

And a little extra something special from the divine Beauty in Numbers. These barefoot ‘Gypsy Feet’ crochet sandals were made by her lovely mother :) How cool is that! Just makes my heart so happy to share such lovely creations with you all :)

My second outfit features a beautiful Jen’s Pirate Booty dress. It’s one of those easy summer boho dresses, super flattering and flowy and oh soooo comfortable. I could style this dress so many ways, though I was in the mood for simple silver jewels and a floppy wide brim hat.

I’m counting my blessings for all these beautiful handmade creations in my life. Each and every day I practice the art of appreciation. It can be for the simplest of things. And especially on those days where I feel completely snowballed and as though my entire universe has collapsed….these are the days I practice even harder. I remind myself that I am alive, that all I have is this moment. And that this moment is filled with an infinite amount of possibilities. I can choose love, joy, freedom, whatever I want. Sometimes I simply have to let go of my focus on the hurt, because it just extends the suffering, and I choose to see the great stuff, the beauty and the blessings, the wonder, the inspirations that surround me wherever I may be. Find them, practice the art of living and loving the moments. Life begins to mirror your internal world and more of the same will be created.

With love and gratitude,

Helen xx

Celebrating Love

It’s been plentiful love vibes here in the Janneson Bense abode, with V day a couple of weeks ago, and last weekend’s anniversary celebrations. My amazing husband took me on a wine cruise along the swan river to commemorate our 6 divine years of marriage. And it was incredible! The thoughtfulness, the romance, the wine, the food, meeting so many wonderful people, creating new connections, the luxury of cruising along the river in the sunshine, being thoroughly entertained by the hosts and captain of Captain Cook Cruises. They both actually sang us songs on our return trip and they were amazing!

I wanted to wear something really special on this day. My handmade Loveleigh lace dress was absolutely perfect for the occasion. One of a kind, consciously created with love.

I kept my jewels simple and gold with Anna Beck, Torchlight Jewelry and Heather Gardner. While we played at the wineries I wore my Flower Gypsies flower crown, remembering back to the magical flower arrangements at our wedding. As evening set in and we returned to the dock, we strolled along the river, reminiscing on that beautiful moment when we became husband and wife. The sun was setting and it was the perfect end to a perfect date.

Something that came to my attention on this magnificent day was the choice we have to make the most of any experience in life. When we try new things and adventure out of our comfort zone, we can choose to either see everything that is wrong with the situation, or everything that is amazing and awesome. Pretty much goes for a lot of things in life. When we choose to see the blessings and wonder that exists, the opportunities for connection, for fun, and a whole universe of love and joy, open up to us. Our experience is enriched and we are nourished. Like anything it takes practice, though the more we practice gratitude and joy, the richer our life becomes.

With love and gratitude,

Helen xx

Crystal Flower Child

Windswept and bathed in light, adorned in flowers and crystals, my inner child free to play. This was a really fun photoshoot. The afternoon wind, or as commonly known here “The Freo Doctor” was in full effect. Rather than resisting it, I utilised the energy to it’s full magnitude. My dreamcatcher became my kite as I danced around the beach, watching the strings of lace flying in the sky. The beach was quiet this afternoon, filled only with a few kindred souls playing….mermaids, kite surfers, skim boarders. It was such an inspiring and playful energy that surrounded me. Highly contagious :)

I had the chance to style some gorgeous local pieces from Princess Poppy Co, a company based here in Fremantle, WA. I love supporting local business and especially when they produce beautiful pieces of art. Also wearing my favourite crystal jewels from Arrow Divine. I had the pleasure of meeting the talented designer behind this label while I was interstate over the holidays. I have followed them on instagram for awhile now and watched each collection grow and expand creatively and I am forever inspired and impressed. Some Arrow Divine is definitely a must have for any jewellery lover.

And this dress! Thanks Free People for such a stunning easy everyday beach dress. Such a flattering fit, super soft rayon, perfect distressing, and a great layering piece. It’s one of those basics that you can style so many ways, that also works perfectly on it’s own. For more of my Free People styling check out my Free People Me page here.

Whatever the weather is, wherever you beautiful beings are, infuse some bright light into your day with crisp whites, clear crystals and sparkling waters. A lake, a river, a stream, the beach or even a pond. Water has many healing qualities and to be near it is to bring you closer to your heart space.

With love and gratitude xx

Heart Space

February 2, 2014

IMG_5202IMG_5215 IMG_5218 IMG_5204

“Your heart is the size of an ocean. Go find yourself in its hidden depths” ~ Rumi

Whenever I feel a little off balance, I am quickly reminded to return to my heart. To dig deeper until that peace washes over me. And then I wonder how I could have so easily strayed from home.

I’ve had the pleasure of spending the past 6 weeks with my gorgeous children while they’ve been on school holidays. I must say it’s been such a joy, even amongst the challenging times. My heart is actually feeling a little heavy and sad as I think about my youngest soon starting school full time. And I can so easily recall the time when I actually longed for this, well more accurately for the break and rest I so desperately needed. Now that the time has come, I feel my heart ache that they are growing up so fast. My babies aren’t babies anymore :( And now my days will soon be a lot quieter without their bubbly joy filled energy around. It’s so bittersweet because I am beyond excited about the possibilities and time I will have to create and rejuvenate, though this transition is still one that brings a few tears to my eyes.

What I love most about spending my days with my children is that they are always in their heart space, and they continue to remind me to join them. It’s such a gift.

These photos were taken at our local beach one early morning this week. My almost 8 year old daughter even helped me as we set up the tripod and set it on self timer. Such a sweetheart! We spent the morning collecting pieces of natural art – rocks, shells, sticks, and doing a morning meditation as we gave thanks to gaia.

Being a mother is the most challenging and rewarding journey of my life. I feel so blessed to spend my life with these earth angels.

With love and gratitude xx

One with the Sea

“hark, now hear the sailors cry,
smell the sea, and feel the sky
let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic…” ~ Van Morrison

I simply can’t get enough mermaiding this summer! To be one with the sea, revitalised by the nourishing waters, all worries washed away. I’m so lucky to live near the beach, and in a country with an abundance of sunshine and blue skies. I know there are many who don’t live near the ocean, and some who have never even seen the ocean. I really try to cherish the fact that the ocean is so close and make the most of it whenever I can. It’s such a blessing! I feel so alive and free when I’m there….to simply sit and watch the sunrise, ride the waves, or dance in the sand.

To all those in winter on the other side of the world, or those who live far from the ocean…I’m sending you sunshine vibes and the hope that soon you’ll get to visit the beautiful ocean once again.

With love and light xx

As the sun kissed the moon…

January 24, 2014

So many hours I’ve spent watching the sun set and moon rise, and you know it just never gets old. It’s my idea of magic! It’s a form of meditation. It’s a beautiful way to give thanks to gaia and enjoy all her beauty.

Now I find myself sharing my love of the sun and the moon with my family. We often drive to the beach to simply watch in awe as the sun says goodnight for the day. And if we are lucky, on those really special days, when the moon is full, we might just catch a glimpse of it rising low on the horizon.

Last week we were so lucky. It was a very windy sunset, though completely envigorating. The children frolicked and so did we :) and as the sun set we all felt the peace and calm wash over us. As we drove home we saw the full and bountiful moon sitting on the horizon as though the sun had just kissed it on it’s way by, fuelling it with beaming light to shine bright over the darkening sky.

A blissful and most beautiful way to spend an hour in the evening. Sometimes we can get so comfortable and habitual in our routines and patterns at home. These are the moments where I love to adventure out into nature and remember how amazing life is. You’ll feel your energy soar and your vibration return to love, as your entire energy field comes into alignment.

With love and gratitude xx

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek” ~ Joseph Campbell

This quote is so very fitting for last weekend’s adventures. We set off north to the coast for some surfing and mermaiding. We found ourselves in a secret surf spot exploring heavily eroded limestone caves. We were surrounded by sharp, brittle and super dangerous caverns that were so breaktakingly beautiful. Regardless of the danger and repelling nature I was so drawn to them. I sat within this natural shelter, in complete awe, as I watched mother nature’s power. Uncomfortable at first, I soon began to face each fearful thought with acceptance. I realised that fear is not something to escape, but rather something to find comfort in. To allow fear space to simply be, to melt into it, you discharge it. This once arid and unhospitable environment had become my centre for meditative reflection. Once I had found this place of comfort within, that initial draw to be there had vanished. Almost instantaneously I found myself laying in the sand watching the offshore waves roll in. A day of sunshine, surf and mermaiding followed.

I took a large swag of some recent clothing and jewelry faves with me to the beach. I had soooooo much fun playing dress ups out in nature, deeply inspired by her beauty.

Another of my favourite quotes that pretty much sums up the rest of the afternoon ~ “Laying low with our toes in the sea, I’ll be your mermaid, I’ll be your sea queen.” ~ unknown source.

Surrender to your fears and allow them to simply be…you will soon discover they will no longer hold any power over you.

With love and gratitude,

Helen xx

“All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream” ~ Edgar Allan Poe

It was the dreamiest of days. Beaming warm sun, soft ocean waves, stillness in the air, an ease and grace flowed through every particle of my being. I flowed to the beach in silk and lace, tassels and fringe, flowers and crystals. Blooming and shimmering with each step, effortlessly slipping into the dream, every essence of my being vibrating to the frequency of love.
